Bobcat vs Positrack: Which Suits Perth Sand?
Same job, different feet
Both machines push, load and level with the same attachments. The difference is what's under them: wheels concentrate weight into four contact patches; tracks spread it across the whole footprint. That single fact decides most hires.
| Bobcat (wheels) | Positrack (tracks) | |
|---|---|---|
| Soft sand | Bogs when loaded | Wins |
| Slopes | Loses traction | Wins |
| Finished lawn/paving | Tears turning | Gentler |
| Firm flat ground | Faster | Slower, wears tracks |
| Hire cost (ours) | from $209/day | from $275/day |
The Perth factor
Most Perth blocks are Bassendean or Spearwood sand. Unloaded, a bobcat manages; loaded with a heaped bucket, it digs itself in, and every correction chews the surface you just levelled. Tracks solve both. That's why our positrack fleet (Terex PT30, Cat 249D, Kubota SVL65-2 and SVL75) outnumbers our wheeled machines: it's what the ground here asks for.
Pick the bobcat when the site is compacted, level and dry (demolition slabs, yards, hardstand) and pocket the difference. Browse both: bobcats · positracks.
