Bobcat vs Positrack: Which Suits Perth Sand?

On sand, slopes or wet ground, hire a positrack. Tracks spread the load and won't bog or tear the surface. On firm flat ground, a wheeled bobcat is faster and cheaper. For most Perth residential blocks, the positrack is the safer call.

Same job, different feet

Both machines push, load and level with the same attachments. The difference is what's under them: wheels concentrate weight into four contact patches; tracks spread it across the whole footprint. That single fact decides most hires.

The Perth factor

Most Perth blocks are Bassendean or Spearwood sand. Unloaded, a bobcat manages; loaded with a heaped bucket, it digs itself in, and every correction chews the surface you just levelled. Tracks solve both. That's why our positrack fleet (Terex PT30, Cat 249D, Kubota SVL65-2 and SVL75) outnumbers our wheeled machines: it's what the ground here asks for.

Pick the bobcat when the site is compacted, level and dry (demolition slabs, yards, hardstand) and pocket the difference. Browse both: bobcats · positracks.

Related questions

Is a positrack the same as a bobcat?

"Bobcat" is the brand-name shorthand for a wheeled skid steer; a positrack is the tracked version (compact track loader). Same controls and attachments, different ground behaviour.

Why are positracks dearer to hire?

Tracks and undercarriage cost far more to buy and maintain than wheels. The premium buys you flotation. On sand it pays for itself in not getting bogged.
